Boab trees, Kimberley on plywood
Endemic to northern Australia, boab trees (Adansonia gregorii) are found in the Kimberley region and in parts of the Northern Territory. Other boab species are native to Madagascar, mainland Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. Australian boab trees range from 5 to 15 meters in height, and some trunks over five metres in diameter have been recorded. It is a deciduous tree, losing its leaves during the dry winter period and producing new leaves and large white, scented flowers between December and May.
